Monument Valley is great. Couldn't believe that it was that short. Did you get it because it was the Free App of the Week?

Contra? Man I can’t believe how short games used to be compared to the epics they are today

I always die an hour in yet I always come back in the hope that I might, just one day, possibly, however unlikely make it to 2 hours in. Also starships are awesome.

Megaman X. It's not crazy short, but still 100%-able in one sitting.

Don’t know your definition of ‘short’ but I’ll try anyway...sticking to stuff I played in the last year or 3 and going off the top of my head so I’m certainly missing stuff...
Braid, Papers Please, and Journey are all relatively recent and pretty much got all positive reviews. They’re all ‘narative-ish’.
Escape Goat and Snake Bird were both fun, short puzzle types.
May be stretching your definition of short, but the recent ‘rougue-lites’ work perfectly for short session gaming (can play for 10-15 minutes and get a whole experience...if you want to get exceptional at them you’ll be looking at hundreds of hours though). The ones that hit it off pretty big recently were the Binding of Isaac stuff and Spelunky.

Technically it is a short game. Even if it may take you a long time to finish it.

16 minute legit, non-tool run (I think there’s a 12 minute one out there as well):

Kentucky Route Zero is pretty good, though it’s taking forver for them to release new episodes. Tales from the Borderlands (if you’re into that sort of thing) is a fantastic story game, and each episode can be one sitting.

Preferably with a 9 iron, sand wedge and a putter.
Or Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 (Once you max out Force Lightning, you become a god).

Depends on your definition of short. I think that the game “The Last of Us” is relatively short but is definitely well worth playing. My favorite part of the game was just using stealth 100% of the time. I kinda wish it had a harder difficulty mode though, I wanted to truly run out of ammo and end up having to fight with bricks but that never really happened.

Monument Valley is fantastic. Have you ever played World of Goo? Not sure if it can be considered short, but worth your time, even if you don’t have enough time to finish it all in one shot.

Did you play on PS3 or PS4? The remastered version came with an extra ‘Grounded’ difficulty that had basically no supplies apart from the scripted weapon pickups (rifle in the statehouse, Diablo at the beginning of the dam mission, etc.) so you were basically left with bricks and bottles for 90% of the game. It was hard as hell though, I made it to Bill’s town before I had to restart on Survivor difficulty because I had no weapons or ammo to kill the Bloater in the gym lol.
And I always used stealth too, seemed more true to the game than just going in guns blazing. Then again, it made the ending really intense because you could go full Rambo with all the ammo you saved over the course of the game.

I haven’t played on grounded because you have to pay like $10 for it. I only paid about $17 for the game in total so it seemed silly to pay another $10 for that. I played the game on PS3 on the hardest available difficulty. From what I read into though, the supplies are not really much more limited than that one. If it is like you say though, I may consider getting it. I would find that a good bit more of fun!

There was definitely less supplies on Grounded than Survivor but the real challenge was enemies basically one-shotting you since they do 50% more damage than in Survivor, plus the checkpoints were further apart. If you’re planning on getting a PS4 in the future you might as well forego buying the DLC on PS3 and just get the remastered version which also comes with the Left Behind DLC (which is seriously the best add-on I’ve ever played), but if not the price of the DLC has probably gone down in the ~2 years since the game has been released. Either way it’s worth getting imo.

Yeah I only own like three games on my PS3 (The Last of Us, GTA5, GT6) since I bought it primarily as a Netflix/Amazon Prime player along with for Blu Rays. So I won’t really have a need to upgrade to PS4. I will definitely get the Grounded DLC though so I can do a more difficult play through. I have always played every video game with an intent to conserve ammo anyways, but at least in The Last of Us it actually feels purposeful instead of for my own entertainment.

I do the same thing and loved the The Last of Us for that reason as well, it’s the only game where it feels like resource conservation is a necessity instead of something you intentionally do to make games more challenging. Grounded was crazy hard (all the difficulty of Survivor but no HUD as well) but definitely worth it if you’re trying to get the full, realistic experience. Just checked PSN and it’s only $5 too.
Know I mentioned it before but seriously dude, you have to play Left Behind as well. Maybe wait until Christmas for a sale or something, but I’d so far to say the main game is incomplete without it because it explains so much of Ellie’s backstory and motivations during the campaign. It’s absolutely brilliant and well worth the $10 or whatever it costs.
